Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a unit of India's Tata Motors, is planning to set up a new engine manufacturing plant in India.

The company said that the new plant will manufacture lower specification engines that could also be used in some of Tata manufactured cars.

JLR chief executive Ralf Speth told hindustantimes.com that the company is currently building a engine factory in the UK with an investment of GBP355m (INR 28.4bn) for low emission but high performance engines.

"Our next step would be to set up another facility in India for entry level engines," Speth said.

"We would see at how we can synergise our operations with Tata Motors and possibly look at making engines that would be suitable for their cars as well."

JLR is also planning to set up new engine plants also in China and another one in Brazil, while its engines are currently manufactured by Ford.

The company has showcased Evoque convertible and XF Sportbrake at the Geneva Motor Show and is planning to launch 40 new products in the next five years.
